Justice Ângela Issa Haonat has been appointed to chair the Commission to Combat Disinformation (CEDE) in the State. The decision was made by the President of the Regional Electoral Court of the State of Tocantins (TRE-TO), Justice João Rigo Guimarães, through the Ordinance 128/2024. The act was published in the April 12th edition of the Journal of Justice (DJE).
Faced with the challenges posed by the spread of false and distorted information, the main objective of the commission chaired by the magistrate is to develop strategies and actions to combat the spread of fake news, hate speech and deepfakes that could interfere with the electoral process in the State of Tocantins.
"In times of rampant disinformation, it is up to all of us to promote initiatives to strengthen democracy and the credibility of electoral institutions in Brazil. The Electoral Court is one of the most solid pillars of Brazilian democracy. Despite its admirable and honorable work, unfair and anti-democratic attacks are frequent. We will therefore remain firm and vigilant in confronting disinformation, hateful and discriminatory speech and deepfake within the TRE-TO," said the Justice.

In February of this year, the Plan to Combat Disinformation of the TRE-TO with a view to the Elections of 2024 was presented by Justice João Rigo Guimarães during an ordinary session for the members of the Court.
The Ciedde
On March 12th, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) inaugurated the Integrated Center for Confronting Disinformation and Defending Democracy. Ciedde will coordinate the fight against disinformation, hate speech and anti-democratic speeches during the elections. It will operate at the TSE in Brasilia, working in conjunction with public and private institutions.
