The defense of the environment, encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices and the dissemination of initiatives for the preservation of nature deserve to be highlighted in the Judiciary. The National Council of Justice (CNJ) has published the regulations for the edition of 2024 of the Green Judgment Award, an annual competition that seeks to distinguish, among the 91 courts in the country, those that have achieved the best results in the sustainability performance index (IDS) and, among the 27 Courts of Justice and the six Federal Regional Courts, those that have achieved the best productivity indicators relating to the provision of justice in the environmental area.
The award, which is in its third edition, is divided into two categories. In the Good Practices category, initiatives in the area of sustainability, from an environmental perspective, and those that contribute to the improvement of judicial performance in the environmental area, such as the adoption of technological tools, remote sensing, analysis of satellite images, in short, innovations that have an impact on procedural flow. In the Performance category, the aim is to recognize courts with the best results in IDS and productivity, according to their ability to hear older cases and promote a greater reduction in the number of cases compared to the total entered.
ProteCTION
The Green Court Award was created to honor initiatives aimed at protecting the environment or that contribute to the productivity of the Judiciary in the environmental area. The award also aims to disseminate successful practices implemented by Brazilian courts.
The award is part of the "Judiciary for the Environment" Program, which reinforces the commitment to the continuous improvement of judicial bodies in order to fulfill the constitutional duty to defend and preserve the ecologically balanced environment.
