New edition of esmat magazine honors Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni

With a tribute to the Argentinean jurist and member of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni, the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins launches the 22nd edition of the ESMAT Magazine. The work, coordinated by the scientific editor and doctoral professor at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), Tarsis Barreto Oliveira, brings together an unpublished article by the jurist and contributions from authors from eight countries.

With a special significance to the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, to the national and international academic community, and to the editorial staff that participated in its elaboration, the new and special Edition has 16 articles developed by 19 jurists from Argentina, Brazil, France, Morocco, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, and Russia, whose works, written in Portuguese, Spanish, and French, pay homage to the internationally recognized jurist.

Considered one of the world's greatest authorities on criminal law today, Zaffaroni is a reference in Latin America. Born in Buenos Aires, in 1940, he has a trajectory of more than thirty years in the Judiciary. His theories have been widely disseminated in Brazil. His works include TRATE OF CRIMINAL LAW, MANUAL OF CRIMINAL LAW, NAZI CRIMINAL LAW, THE WORD OF THE DEAD - CONFERENCES OF CAUTEL CRIMINOLOGY, IN SEARCH OF LOST SENTENCES, THE ENEMY IN CRIMINAL LAW, among others.

“Works such as Zaffaroni's allow us to see, with undeniable precision and clarity, the minimalist perspective of Criminal Law, as a limitation to the irrational punitive violence of the State," said Professor Tarsis Barreto.

For the PhD professor and general coordinator of the Latin American Permanent Committee for the Prevention of Crime (COPLAD), Edmundo Oliveira, "everything that professor Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni has built in the field of Criminal Law and Criminology represents a rich and luminous achievement towards a better tomorrow for humanity, under the aegis of the foundation with important teachings in the constant search for reconciliation of the values of the individual and of society," he wrote.
