With The Rights of Nature between Neoconstitutionalism and the New Latin American Constitutionalism theme, Judge Marco Villas Boas, General Director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) and President of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of Magistracy (COPEDEM), gave a lecture this Friday (20th), in the I Simposio Mundial de Derechos de la Naturaleza La Biodiversidad y la Tierra como Sujetos de Derechos (I World Symposium on the Rights of Nature Biodiversity and the Earth as Subjects of Rights), event organized by the University of the city of Caxias do Sul (UCS) in partnership with the Interdisciplinary School of Fundamental Rights Praeeminentia Iustitia, which aims to reflect on the rights of nature through a national and international study.
In his speech, the judge talked about the reality of traditional communities and ethnic minorities that depend exclusively on the environment to guarantee their subsistence rights in light of the concepts of Neoconstitutionalism and the New Latin American Constitutionalism. "The reconstruction of human rights, based on this new concept that links them to the natural environment, gravitates around the idea that no economic value can be attributed to nature, especially since it is the fundamental principle of life," he stated.
Also on the program, the magistrate Wellington Magalhães of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), of the 3rd Deputy Board - Esmat's Council for High Studies and Scientific Research - gave the lecture Desarrollo Sostenible, Políticas Públicas y Eficacia de las Decisiones Judiciales Ambientales (Sustainable Development, Public Policy and the Effectiveness of Environmental Court Decisions). On April 19th, Professor Tarsis Barreto, PhD, professor of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Judicial Provision and Human Rights (UFT/ESMAT), gave The Rights of Nature between Neoconstitutionalism and the New Latin American Constitutionalism lecture.
