On the afternoon of Thursday, November 7th, the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins held a round discussion on “Itinerant Justice: Protecting Young Voices - Perspectives and Challenges for the Implementation of Itinerant Justice and Testimony Without Harm for Children and Adolescents Victims of Sexual Violence” at its headquarters and also on the YouTube page of Esmat.
The event was attended by the speaker, the head Judge of the Special Court for Children and Youth of the city of Palmas Adriano Gomes de Melo Oliveira, the Prosecutor Sidney Fiori Júnior and the debaters Professor Tarsis Barreto Oliveira, coordinator of the Master's and Doctorate Program in Judicial Provision and Human Rights (UFT and Esmat); Elisa Maria Pinto de Souza Falcão Queiroz, Public Defender and coordinator of Nudeca; Rita di Cássia Bartok, Pedagogue responsible for the project to implement the Special Testimony at the TJTO; and Andréa França de Paiva, Social Worker from the Itinerant Welcoming Testimony team at the TJPE.
In his speech, Judge Adriano Gomes highlighted the importance of this event: “It's important to have dialogues on the issue of specialized listening and special testimony with actors who are involved in the day-to-day practice, such as the Public Defender's Office, the State Prosecution and the Judiciary, so that we can exchange experiences, put more emphasis on the need for speed and manage to make the absolute priority of Children and Youth prevail,” he said.
Presentation
On the occasion, researcher Vera Lúcia Vieira Moura, a civil server in the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins and an academic on the professional master's degree in Judicial Provision and Human Rights promoted by Esmat in partnership with UFT, presented her master's project which aims to implement Itinerant Justice in the State of Tocantins to protect children and adolescents who are victims of sexual violence. The project proposes taking specialized services and taking statements to different regions of the State, guaranteeing access to a more humanized and effective justice system.
About the Conversation Round
The aim of the discussion was to strengthen and consolidate the formation of an integrated network for monitoring and controlling crimes of sexual violence against children and adolescents, promoting coordination between the main players involved, such as the State Prosecution, the Public Defender's Office, Guardianship Councils, Human Rights Centers, State and Municipal Councils, Health Departments, Psychosocial Care Centers, Education Departments, Superior Education Institutions and representatives of organized civil society.
