The Seminar on the new directions of the global economy began on Thursday (March 8th) with a speech by Justice Marco Villas Boas, President of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (Copedem) and General Director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat). In his remarks, he stressed the importance of the partnership with the Memory Institute in holding events that are relevant to the national judiciary.

"Our Seminar, which is concerned with the direction of the global economy, digital transformation, innovation and socio-economic development, is a partnership with the Memory Institute that has worked and has been very beneficial for the Brazilian Judiciary, for the Brazilian Magistracy. It has borne good fruit, with seminars that are always well thought out and panels of excellent quality," he said.

In relation to the language model developed by Google, the Justice addressed the discussions on the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on the Judiciary.

"The great Gemini initiative has brought an embracing approach to generative artificial intelligence, allowing this tool to be used with exponential potential. This newly emerging artificial intelligence has significantly impacted the lives of people, the economy, development and all sectors of our society. Of course, there is significant concern about the use of generative artificial intelligence and the ethical limits, especially in relations between humans and machines that are of direct interest to the law," he commented.

Lecture

The opening lecture was given by Milton Larsen Burgese, Director of computing for Latin America of Google, on the subject of "Applying new technologies - AI and Gemini". During his presentation, the speaker covered topics such as Google Cloud, digital transformation, socio-economic development, responsible artificial intelligence and the positive social impact of AI.

Milton highlighted the fundamental role of justice in the development of society, contributing to several sectors in the country. "I think people often don't understand or realize that without justice we basically have nothing in the country. We don't have education or public safety. Justice permeates the development of any nation, and I believe that a major objective we [Google] have is to work in partnership in order to improve this scenario and be able to impact more and more," he said.

With regard to the increase in global digitalization, Milton explained that previously we used to look at what happened on Google every hour or minute, but now we look at what happens every 60 seconds. He pointed out that, in one minute, there are 3 million searches on Google.

"I think we are really witnessing a very important movement and moment in the human history, with a lot of power, and this needs to be controlled," he said.

The lecture is available on the YouTube channel of Copedem. Check it out.
