Meeting At The Brazilian Embassy In Beijing Discusses Brazil-China Cooperation In Ia And Justice

The Brazilian delegation of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) and the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (COPEDEM) made an institutional visit to the Embassy of Brazil in Beijing, where it was received by Ambassador Marcos Bezerra Abbott Galvão and his team.

During the meeting topics of vital importance for institutional and cooperative relations between Brazil and China were addressed, all academic, judicial and commercial. On the occasion, Justice Marco Villas Boas, general director of ESMAT and president of Copedem, awarded the diplomat with the Medal allusive to the 20 years of Copedem, in recognition of the support of the Embassy in articulating the work agenda and meetings in China.

The meeting also addressed guidelines of interest to judicial schools and initiatives aimed at improving judicial provision, with emphasis on academic cooperation, continuing education and secure digital solutions for the justice ecosystem.

Villas Boas highlighted the importance of renewing technical and scientific cooperation instruments among institutions in both countries, especially the memorandum among the CPQD (Brazil), the CAICT (China) and the BRICS Bloc, focused on governance standards and AI applications of public interest. The articulation reinforces the environment of applied research and exchange, with direct impacts on the qualification of magistrates and servers and the dissemination of reliable digital tools for efficiency, transparency and access to Justice.

Cooperation

In May of 2025, the Brazilian and Chinese governments renewed understandings on the digital economy and artificial intelligence agenda, contemplating cooperation in digital transformation, development of emerging technologies and stimulation of binational projects. The measures include a work plan and bilateral forums, as well as the commitment to foster talent and research, which are milestones that guide the institutional cooperation highlighted during the visit to the Embassy. In this context, the course offered by ESMAT and COPEDEM to the Brazilian magistrates seeks to broaden the dialogue and foster these institutional relations between the Brazilian and Chinese Judiciaries and academic research.
