Pink October: Esmatcast Receives Volunteer Of The Female Cancer League And Reinforces Health Care For Women

In reference to the Pink October, the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) launched a new episode of the ESMATCast. The edition brings a sensitive and enlightening chat between Judge Flávia Afini Bovo and Psychologist Cleide Brandão, volunteer of the Female League to Combat Cancer.

The episode highlights the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and care for women diagnosed with breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute (INCA), breast cancer is the second most common among women in Brazil, with more than 73,000 new cases per year. When identified at the beginning, the chances of healing can exceed 90%.

In addition to sharing statistics and practical guidelines, Cleide brought reports of her own experience with the disease and spoke about the work of the League in the state of Tocantins, which currently assists more than 300 patients in situations of social vulnerability. The conversation also clarified doubts about risk factors; the ways to care at SUS and Love Hospital, and the rights of women in the work environment for preventive examinations.

In cases of family history, the public network allows the anticipation of mammography before 40 years. In the state of Tocantins, women aged 40 and over are entitled to free mammography by the Unified Health System (SUS), which is available at the Basic Health Units (UBSs) of the municipalities.

The Love Hospital, based in the city of Palmas, is also a reference for early diagnosis and reception of patients, offering the possibility of examinations for younger women in cases of family history of the disease.

In addition, a state law guarantees public civil servers the right to be absent from work for one day each year for preventive breast and cervical cancer examinations - a benefit that can be requested directly to the immediate supervisor.

How to help

During the episode, Cleide reinforced the invitation for the population to know and support the actions of the Female League. Among the main fronts of action are: donation of medicines, hygiene products, food baskets suitable for the diet of patients and monthly visits to families served. The headquarters of the League is near the General Hospital of Palmas (HGP).
