Jurist Of The State Of Prnambuco Presents Book, Fruit Of Academic Work, To Justice Marco Villas Boas, General Director Of Esmat And President Of Copedem

While participating in an academic activity this Friday (June 13th) in the city of Palmas, magistrate Haroldo Carneiro Leão Sobrinho officially handed over the physical copy of his master's dissertation to Justice Marco Villas Boas, general director of the Superior School of the Judges (Esmat) and president of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Magistracy (Copedem).

Entitled on "Validity and Effectiveness of the Digital Signature in Electronic Contracts: an analysis of the manifestation of will in the virtual environment", the work represents a relevant contribution to current debates on Digital Law, Technology, Legal Security and Consumer Protection in Electronic Contractual Relations. The work was defended in the Postgraduate Program in Law at the Catholic University of the state of Pernambuco (Unicap), under the supervision of Professor Lúcio Grassi de Gouveia, and published in a special edition of the Esmape Online Magazine (Volume 4, Number 7, Jan./Jun. 2025), in honor of the 37th anniversary of the Judicial School of the state of Pernambuco.

The book examines the applicable national and international legislation, the challenges in regulating electronic signatures, the protection of expressions of will on digital platforms, as well as the practical repercussions of emerging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and quantum cryptography on Contract Law.

At the award ceremony, Justice Marco Villas Boas highlighted the importance of research that dialogues with technological transformations and their impact on the Justice System.

"Contemporary judicial action requires constant updating on emerging issues, such as the new forms of expressing will in a digital environment. Academic work such as this expands the theoretical and practical repertoire of magistrates and all legal operators," said the general director of Esmat and president of  Copedem.
