The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) launched on Monday (October 7th), the campaign to collect books: "Read Free", in the Forum of the District of Gurupi. The initiative, which aims to encourage the donation of literature books, new and/or used, is intended for the Cariri Penal Treatment Unit, and it will benefit four hundred seventy-one inmates.
Silvânia Olortegui, librarian of Esmat, led the official launch of the campaign, which was attended by Marcos Rodrigues Porto, Director of the Cariri Prison; Nilson Afonso da Silva, Judge Director; Gerlânia Figueiredo de Oliveira Maia, Secretary of the Judiciary; and Adailton Lima Marinho, Judicial Technician.
Donations will be accepted until November 7th, and the interested ones can deliver the books at collection points located in the Cariri Penal Treatment Unit, in the Esmat Library and in the Forum of the District of Gurupi.
The "Read Free" campaign aims to promote access to reading as a tool for social transformation, fostering the re-socialization of inmates through knowledge and culture.
