The 6th edition of the Longevity Forum has started this Sunday (September 29th) in the city of São Paulo. Over three days, the event promotes more than 250 lectures and activities to inspire and collaborate with the future of active ageing in Brazil. This year, the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins participates in the exhibition and contributes to the debate on the reality of the elderly population in Brazil. Representing the State are Odete Almeida, the Judge who coordinates the Citizenship Department of the General Internal Affairs of Justice (CGJUS), and Juliana Corgozinho, a member of the Management Group of the Multidisciplinary Teams of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (GGEM)/coordinator of the Reality Survey of the Elderly Population in the State of Tocantins.
In the round table discussion on “Public Policies, Advocacy and Information”, held by the Itaú Live More Association on the first day of the programming, Citizenship coordinating Judge Odete Almeida spoke about the actions of the Judiciary aimed at guaranteeing the rights of the elderly in the State and presented the main results of the Reality Survey of the Elderly in the State of Tocantins. “It is an immense joy to take part in this exhibition, contributing with the data from this important survey carried out by the Judiciary, mapping the reality of the elderly in the State of Tocantins. Today it was possible to see how much this data has fostered debate and contributed immensely to other people and segments coming together to address the reality of the elderly throughout Brazil,” she said.
Marília Duque, a writer and researcher on the interface between technology and ageing, mediated the conversation, which also included the participation of Antonio Marcelo da Silva, Rio Grande do Sul's Secretary for Digital Inclusion and Equity of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, and Eduardo Ferreira, creator of the Longevity platform.
“I think this is the way forward; to get the sectors to talk and to think about the challenges that are so plural when we talk about ageing in Brazil,” said Marília, who also leads the New Longevity Lab, an initiative that seeks to engage all sectors of society to respond to the challenges of accelerated population ageing.
Still according to the mediator, the experience of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins contributes to the ecosystem of social innovation in longevity and deserves to be highlighted for its interdisciplinarity and the interaction between government and academia in the preparation of the research. “I think the initiative of the State of initiative is fantastic. And what really stands out to me is the way it has been given back to society, in terms of accessible information. The interactive map is very rich; this is very important when we think about how to make this knowledge accessible so that it actually promotes the changes it needs to promote,” she said.

The survey Reality of the Elderly Population in the State of Tocantins was carried out by the Citizenship Coordination Office of the CGJUS (Cocid), in partnership with the Management Group of the Multidisciplinary Teams of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (GGEM). The broad diagnosis was based on data from the Census of 2022 and it is an unprecedented survey.
The mapping covers the care, attention and protection networks for the elderly in the 139 municipalities of the State, as well as the profile of this population and the panorama of violence against the elderly in the State of Tocantins.
