Restorative Justice gains strength in the North and Northeast regions of the country with the I Meeting held on April 19th and 20th in the city of São Luís. The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) was present at the event organized by the Court of Justice of the State of Maranhão (TJMA), aiming to strengthen the implementation of the National Restorative Justice Judiciary Policy.
The meeting was attended by Judges Rosa Maria Gazire Rossi and Silvana Maria Parfieniuk, and by Andréia Teixeira Marinho Barbosa, coordinator of the Center for Training and Improvement of Magistrates (NUFAM), to share experiences and discuss actions to promote the Restorative Justice in the North and Northeast regions.
On the second day of the event, Judge Silvana Maria Parfieniuk participated in the panel on "Restorative Justice in Practice: a look at the Juvenile and Domestic Violence Courts". During her presentation, the Judge presented projects developed by the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, such as the "Restorative circles for conflict prevention involving indigenous peoples"; the "Reflective group: conscious man"; and the "Group for women victims of domestic violence - professionalizing and welcoming".
Regarding the project on "Reflective group: conscious man", the Judge stressed its importance in a scenario of domestic violence, showing that the goal is to make men reflect about their actions and their consequences to society and to their families.
"The project seeks to promote a space for shared listening, exchange of experiences and discussion about gender equality. With a consistent support network, involving the Court of Justice, Nupemec and Esmat, the project was implemented in 2021, during the pandemic period, and proves to be an alternative to create an assertive behavior in face of stressful situations", she said.
