Cine Forum Rights View discusses limits of punishment of crimes and amplification of suffering

The trivialization of suffering, the violence cult and the society of the spectacle were the themes addressed in another edition of the cinematographic discussion works with a sensitization and promotion of Human Rights approach, held on Monday (31st), through a Webinary about the short film “White Bear” (Black Mirror T2E2), an episode of the anthological series Black Mirror, available on the Netflix streaming platform.

The Cine Forum activity is part of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Human Rights and Jurisdictional Provision, promoted by the School of Judges of Tocantins (ESMAT) in partnership with the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) and it has the support of Public Defender of the State. The virtual forum was attended by the Doctor and Researcher Professor Patrícia Medina, coordinator of the research group, and coordinator of the Cine Forum activity, Liz Marina Regis Ribeiro, master’s student at PPGPJDH and server of the Public Defenders of Tocantins. Also participating in the discussions, as facilitators of the debate: professor Dr. Renata Rocha; Professor Dr. Cleórbete Santos; the specialist Ana Carolina Ribeiro de Morais; the teacher Msc. Bianca Kremer; the Msc. Lily Sany Silva Leite; and professor Dr. Oneide Perius.

Narrated by flashbacks means, the short film introduces the story of a woman, pursued by a group of people armed with smartphones with a camera, which records the entire process of escape of the character. In its conclusion, the work presents an incredible turnaround and discusses issues such as the spectacularization of Criminal Law, the act of provoking “justice with your own hands”, the spectacularization of suffering, without forgetting the lack of empathy for people, even in cases in which they committed serious crimes.
