In search of more information on cancer prevention, health and quality of life, women from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins took time out on Friday (October 25th) to receive guidance on the importance of self-care.
In an afternoon of interaction and relaxation, the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, through the Health Center (Cesau/TJTO), in partnership with the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins, promoted a tea for women in the auditorium of Esmat.
The event was part of the III Workshop of the Health on the Agenda Project and the Pink October programming, a month to raise awareness about breast cancer.
The chat was led by doctors Elaine Cristina Ferreira, a Cardiologist and coordinator of Cesau; and Alex Barros Silva, who specializes in Nutrology.
On the occasion, doctor Elaine Ferreira recalled that Pink October is a month of warning about self-care. “We have to learn how to look and listen to the signs of our body, do the breast self-exam, go to the specialist, have the mammogram at the right time, do the pap smear to prevent cervical cancer,” she said, stressing the need to ”take care of our diet, practice physical activity, sleep well, reduce stress and be happy.”
How to reduce the risk of cancer?
When asked what lifestyle habits can be adopted to reduce the risk of developing cancer, such as breast and ovarian cancer, doctor Alex Barros indicated physical activity, based on studies. “Physical exercise changes everything and I know that cardio respiratory exercise is important, but anyone who is 40 or 40+ needs to take care of an important investment called mass,” he said, adding that another necessary habit is healthy eating.
During the event, the doctor also spoke about how weight control can contribute to cancer prevention, pointing out that obesity is a factor of risk for any type of cancer; menopause, hormone replacement and other issues related to the health of women were also addressed.
Listen, learn and practice
Michele Araújo Ferreira Fogaça, who works in the IT department of Esmat, listened attentively to the advice of the experts. According to her, as well as having the opportunity to meet other women who work in the Judiciary, the event allowed her to learn a little more about health care, guidelines that she says she will put into practice.
Milene Freire Leão, a trainee at the Center of Support to the Districts (Nacom), also paid close attention to the advice of the doctors. She says she really enjoys this kind of programming and participates whenever possible.
The event also included a prize raffle and live music performed by Glacielle Torquato.
Other civil servers from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, who work in the countryside, were able to take part in the programming via the YouTube of Esmat.
Cesau/TJTO
At the opening of the programming, social worker Ana Paula Prado Peixoto Silva said that the event represented the coming together of two major projects of Cesau: Health on the Agenda and Pink October. On the occasion, she spoke a little about the Health Center of the Court of Justice, a sectorial unit linked to the Directorate of People Management, made up of a team of health professionals: doctors, physiotherapists, nurses and social workers, all prepared to assist the magistrates and civil servers of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins.
“The Health on the Agenda project brings reflections on themes that permeate daily life, with reference to social and health aspects, with specialized guidance, a focus on preventing illness and maintaining health, spreading education with information and knowledge that result in healthy attitudes and behaviors,” she said.
The next workshop of the Health on the Agenda Project will take place in November and it will be aimed at the men of the Judiciary, taking advantage of the Blue November programming, the month of prostate cancer awareness.
