Bringing together magistrates and civil servers from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, the course on "The New Judicial Frontier: Understanding Generative AI and ChatGPT" began on Monday (October 9th) and was attended by Justice Marco Villas Boas and Justice Ângela Issa Haonat.
The activity, promoted by the Superior School of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT), aims to train the participants in the concepts, applications, limitations and ethical and practical implications of using the Generative Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on ChatGPT.
This first day covered fundamental topics such as the definition and history of AI; the different types of AI; Generative AI and ChatGPT. Participants also had the opportunity to understand how generative models work and explore the practical application of ChatGPT through a practical activity simulating its use.
Luciano Vieira de Araújo, PhD in Bioinformatics and Professor of Data Science at EACH-USP, shared his expectations of the course.
"The course has this expectation of showing all the potential that generative artificial intelligences have, but also their limitations and how to overcome them. So we understood the potential to know how to use it well and where it doesn't work properly. And also to bring it to the practical reality of the judiciary. So, thinking about cases, very specific examples, and not just to be a user, but also a proposer of innovation, of solutions that are needed. And today, in the first class, it was fabulous because people understood, integrated, participated and have already begun to show the impact on daily activity, in meetings, in actions, in how to think about AI and improve processes. In this sense, the course has already brought the planned results; tomorrow we'll have the practical part so that we can experiment and move forward in the search for the best results, using this technology," he commented.
Ana Carla Bliacheriene, PhD, professor of Public Policy Management at EACH-USP, explained the central idea behind the training.
"The idea of the course is to bring civil servers, magistrates and Judges of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins up to date with the state of the art and the latest in generative AI and AI for the work of public bodies. This includes the three branches of government, the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary. The focus of the course itself is the Judiciary, showing how AIs can improve procedural flows, better organize work, reallocate human resources and even support Judges, magistrates in their judicial role, bringing secure information, as long as there is a proper curation of both the databases and the algorithms of the AIs used," he said.
