Conceived by magistrate Antonio Dantas de Oliveira Junior, Esmat begins the course Public Security and Human Rights: A Restorative Look, in distance learning

The first panel of the Public Security and Human Rights course: A Restorative Look approached the themes: Restorative Justice: origin, principles, values and its methodologies; Peace building circles and the use and practice of non-violent communication in the perspective of police performance. The program occurs weekly until May.

Judge Marcio Soares da Cunha, coordinator of the NUPEMEC - Permanent Nucleus of Consensual Methods of Conflict Solution was the table coordinator and the opening session was attended by Judge Manoel de Farias Reis Neto, president of the Restorative Justice Managing Committee of the State of Tocantins, who started his speech congratulating the magistrate Antônio Dantas de Oliveira Junior for the authorship of such an important project for the dissemination of Restorative Justice and highlighted the support of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) to the conflict solution policy: "We are in a difficult time, and Esmat has spared no efforts to continue with its work, that of fomenting programs like this and activities that enrich all law operators, not only from the state of Tocantins", he explained.

When opening the program, the creator of the course, magistrate Antônio Dantas de Oliveira Júnior, expressed, with much enthusiasm, his joy in seeing the course project being successfully carried out, and hopes that everyone leaves satisfied and with a new vision about the subjects approached, understanding the differences between public peace and public order, and how restorative justice becomes a philosophy of life.  "As far as public safety is concerned, what is it? It would be this sense of well-being, of comfort, of its residents being certain that they will have a quiet and peaceful life, free from hassles. We live together in society, in a community; we need to live in peace. For this, we need public security, so that this life can be lived peacefully, in a dignified way. Public order must, therefore, be safeguarded. When it is not safeguarded, society has a feeling of insecurity and impunity," he recalled.

Professor and psychologist Rafaela Duso addressed the second theme of the first panel: Peacebuilding Circles. The speaker talked about the concept of what Restorative Justice is, besides explaining how the Peacebuilding Circles fit in the methodology and what its applications are. "I can already tell you that wherever there are people, it is possible to use the methodology of the Peacebuilding Circles. In the same way, we can also live this set of principles and values of restorative justice", he commented.

The opening program of the course ended with the third lecture, given by professor Marcelo Pelizzoli, who approached the theme: The use and practice of non-violent communication in the perspective of police action.

Composed of eight panels, the course will take place through Esmat's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), with activities that promote interactivity among the students, throughout the course, by means of chat, as well as access to the lectures and other tools that will help in the teaching-learning process.
