Stop for a moment, take a breath and reflect: how is your mental health? How about we talk about life? Concerned with promoting emotional well-being and raising awareness about the importance of self-care in mental health in the workplace and in society, the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, through the Center for Psychosocial Care and Accompaniment (NAPsi), is carrying out various actions this “Yellow September®”, the month of suicide prevention.
The program includes a talk on “Yellow September®: promoting health and preventing mental illness” on September 26th, from 2pm to 5pm. The topic will be given by Psychiatrist Antônio Geraldo da Silva, President of the Brazilian Psychiatry Association (ABP) and coordinator and creator of the “National Yellow September Campaign”.
The speaker will discuss risk factors, warning signs and intervention strategies. The event will be held in partnership with the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) and registrations can be made between September 10th and 25th through the Esmat system.
Magistrates and civil servers from the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins, members and civil servers from the State Prosecution and the Public Defender's Office; magistrates and civil servers from the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-TO) can take part. Other participants include medical students from the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT) and Afya (formerly ITPAC) who are studying psychiatry; and psychology students from UFT, the Lutheran University Center of the city of Palmas (Ulbra) and the Catholic College of the State of Tocantins (Facto) who have already completed the basic cycle of the course, as well as the community in general.
The lecture will take place in person, in the auditorium of the Court of Justice, and it will be broadcast live via the Virtual Platform of Esmat. It will last 3 hours.
Educational campaign
In addition to the lecture, during Yellow September, the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins will be promoting an awareness campaign on suicide prevention on the institutional channels of the Court.
According to the latest survey carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019, more than 700,000 suicides are recorded worldwide, not counting underreported cases. The estimate is more than 1 million occurrences. In Brazil, there are around 14,000 cases a year, an average of 38 a day.
Faced with this reality, it's important to talk about the subject, because regardless of the situation you're living in, seeking help and opting for life will always be the best choice.
