Master's In Judicial Provision And Human Rights Holds A Master Class For Its 11th Class

To begin the academic activities, the 11th class of the Professional and Interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Judicial Provision and Human Rights (PPGPJDH), promoted by the Superior School of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) in partnership with the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT), took place on Wednesday morning (August 30th).

For this class, 32 of the 91 candidates regitered in the last selection process were approved. Among the 32 students are magistrates and civil servers from the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins; members and civil servers from the State Prosecution; civil servers from the Regional Electoral Court of the State of Tocantins; professors and civil servers from the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT); and professionals who are members of the Justice System or work in the field of Judicial Provision and/or Human Rights from any Brazilian federative unit or from abroad, with an initial degree in any area of knowledge (General Public).

Justice Marco Villas Boas, General Director of Esmat, highlighted the historical context of the Stricto Sensu postgraduate program and the results obtained over the 10 years of the existence of the Master's degree.

"I would like to emphasize that the course was not only a pioneer in the State of Tocantins, but also in Brazil and perhaps on the planet. At the time, the legal apparatus didn't allow us to open classes exclusively for a particular institution. For years, there was a great resistance to the offering of master's degrees to the Judiciary or to institutions that were not part of the formal higher education system.  But our program, in addition to being professional, is interdisciplinary and encompasses other segments of society, even the academic class," he argued.

For Professor Gustavo Paschoal, coordinator of the Master's program, the partnership between ESMAT and UFT has resulted not only in 10 years of training and professional qualification, but also in the holding of the International Congress on Human Rights, the 15th edition of which will take place between September 13th and 15th, 2023 in the city of Palmas, broadcast on the ESMAT channel. "We thank you for your trust and partnership over the years," he said.

Academics

A member of the 11th class, the General Attorney, Luciano César Casaroti, points out that taking part in this Master's is an enriching experience on several levels. Firstly, because it is an Esmat activity, the quality of whose work is recognized throughout Brazil and abroad, due to the congresses and seminars that dialogue with the international community. Also for the Master's Degree in Judicial Provision and Human Rights itself, which has a pioneering theme in the State and leads to reflections that are necessary and reach great depth, mainly due to the interdisciplinary nature of the Master's program," he says.

For Master's student Breno Alves, Deputy Chief of the 2nd Homicide Division of the city of Araguaína, the new composition of the 11th Master's Class includes representatives from numerous state institutions, as well as members from the general public, representing a plural student body with enormous capacity to create broad and effective practical results. "I feel honoured to represent my institution and to be in front of fellow students eager for knowledge and the application of scientific modernization in the real world. Now it's time to study and produce knowledge responsibly," he said.

According to Police Delegate Milena Lima, head of the Intelligence Division of TJTO, "from wanting to do the course to actually taking the master's degree was a long period of trial and error. The choice of an interdisciplinary professional master's degree was aimed at seeking knowledge in different areas, in addition to law, due to the uninterrupted process of digital transformation that the world is experiencing. The volume of data processed within the justice system grows every day, and improper access to certain information can cause inestimable damage, even to the police activity. In this context, the research seeks to understand the challenges in relation to the protection of personal data and the management of access levels in the electronic procedural system in harmony with the principle of transparency," she said.

About the Master’s

To date, the Program has graduated 233 masters and another 49 are in training. The great achievement of the Program came in 2022, after the quadrennial evaluation by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and the Foundation Ministry of Education (MEC), which is responsible for expanding and consolidating Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Studies (Master's and Doctorate) in all Brazilian States. The Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Program in Judicial Provision and Human Rights (PPJDH), promoted by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) in partnership with the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT), received a grade of 4, which authorizes it to also offer a PhD.
