The State is the guardian of rights. The Brazilian Constitution aims to protect the State, the federative pact and the social order, by providing guarantees of fundamental rights for its population. However, we often come across the violation of rights. Several essential public sectors and programs are collapsing, such as our prison system. The violation of the human rights of prisoners is undeniable. In Brazil and in other parts of the world, there is a systemic violation of fundamental rights, both individual and collective. The Unconstitutional State of Things occurs in a situation of massive and widespread violation of fundamental rights, which directly affects a large number of people.
The International Congress on Human Rights, in its 17th edition, will promote discussions on the Institute of the State of Unconstitutional Things (ECI). Does the recognition of the Supreme Court of this legal institute have consequences? For whom? Does it bring effective results to society? Does it enable dialogue among the Powers that be? Does it guarantee and enforce Fundamental Rights? Is it a more in-depth analysis needed to demonstrate its effectiveness? These and other questions are recurrent.
On October 2nd, 3rd and 4th, professionals from various fields of knowledge, from various countries, will address this issue and try to answer these and other questions about THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL STATE OF THINGS. You are our guest!
