The Criminal and Penitentiary Policy Seminar, held on Monday (August 28th) in the auditorium of the Tocantins Superior School of Magistrates (ESMAT), deepened discussions on crucial issues in the field of criminal and penitentiary justice, promoting constructive reflections in search of solutions.
Opening
The event was opened by the Judge of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins, Fábio Costa Gonzaga; the superintendent of the Prison System of the State of Tocantins, Rogério Gomes Miranda; and Public Defender Tessia Gomes Carneiro, representing the Public Defender's Office of the State of Tocantins. In addition, Professor Tarsis Barreto Oliveira, from the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT), took part as a debater, further enriching the debates.
Judge Fábio Costa Gonzaga emphasized the purpose of the Seminar, highlighting the importance of disseminating accurate and relevant knowledge: "The main objective of this type of action is to bring information and ensure that it is passed on correctly," he said.
Lecture
Doctor Pery Francisco Assis Shikida, from the State University of Western Paraná (UNIOESTE), brought some very thought-provoking aspects to the discussion. Pery addressed the economic theory of crime, analyzing criminal practice from an economic perspective. He also presented research results on the reasons behind criminal practice.
In a speech that had an impact on the participants, the speaker stressed the importance of investing in education. He also addressed the determinants of the entry of women into drug trafficking, based on a study carried out in the State of Acre.

"As soon as I saw the announcement about this event, I couldn't wait to come here. It's a gift, even more so to be listening to a 24-year-old scholar talking about criminal policy, the prison system and the research he's done. This will help me a lot in my profession," she explained.
