Activities To Promote The Rights Of The Indigenous Peoples Are Presented At An International Seminar

The contextualization of the native peoples in Brazil before and after the 1988 Constitution and their interrelationship in Latin America were the themes of the panel on "Indigenous issues and riverside populations in the Amazon: successful projects and practices", during the IV International Seminar on Management and Innovation in the Judiciary, which was attended by Justice Marco Villas Boas, General Director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (ESMAT) and President of the Permanent College of Directors of State Schools of the Judiciary (COPEDEM). The seminar is promoted by the Judicial Training School of the Federal District and Territories (TJDF) in partnership with the Judicial Performance and Effectiveness Research Group (GEJUD) and the National School for the Training and Improvement of Magistrates (ENFAM).

In his speech, Justice Marco Villas Boas recalled the issues related to promoting the rights of the indigenous peoples and the discussion in Latin America, in countries such as Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia, which went beyond anthropic issues, but made nature a subject of rights, even implementing policies of sustainability and harmony with good living. "In the case of Brazil, there has been a broad anthropocentrism on the issue of environmental rights and obligations and the inclusion and treatment of the indigenous peoples. However, we have seen a new conception of environmental protection and human rights taking place in Latin America, something transformative that has impacted even the inter-American human rights system," he said.

About the Seminar

The 4th edition of the Seminar focuses on debating new ideas for improving the provision of justice, exchanging experiences and good practices, contributing to a greater effectiveness in the Brazilian and global justice system. With the theme "Access to Justice for Groups and People in Situations of Vulnerability", the Seminar aims to stimulate debate and the exchange of good practices in these fields.  The program ends on Friday (September 22nd).
