Preparing teams to act quickly, safely and conscientiously in the face of risky situations was the focus of the classes XII, XIII and XIV of the Fire Brigade Training, carried out by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) in the districts of Gurupi, Porto Nacional and Paraíso do Tocantins.

Aimed at civil servers, trainees and outsourced service providers of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins (PJTO), the training was offered in the semi-in person mode, with a workload of 16 hours per class. The proposal was to combine theory and practice to guide participants on prevention, risk identification and initial action in cases of fire and other emergencies.

The first stage of the course brought together the three classes in a live web class, through the Google Meet platform. Held on March 24th and 26th, the theoretical classes dealt with fundamental contents for preventive and emergency action, such as fire theory, fire classes, extinguishing methods, prevention, area abandonment, analysis of victims and first aid.

In the following phase, the participants went to the practical part, held in person at the forums of the districts. In Gurupi, the practice took place on April 6th; in Porto Nacional, on April 8th; and in Paraíso do Tocantins, on April 10th. The training included the work of facilitators Neivaldo Honorato de Melo (1st lieutenant BM), from the Military Fire Department of the state of Tocantins (CBMTO), and André Luís Tonaco Costa (3rd sergeant BM), from the Military Advisory of the Court (Asmil) of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins.

For lieutenant Honorato, the training represents an opportunity to share technical knowledge and experience with judicial servers, strengthening institutional security. According to him,

“in emergency situations, every second counts", and so proper preparation can make a decisive difference in the outcome of an event.

The facilitator also highlighted that the focus of the work is prevention, but he noted that in the face of an incident, the qualified server becomes able to act more safely and efficiently, protecting lives, heritage and the environment.

Honorato also emphasized the importance of institutional support for the realization of the training. In his assessment, the initiative demonstrates that "knowledge is the foundation of institutional security."

Among the participants, the course also resulted in a broader perception of responsibility, prevention and fast response in the workplace. In a statement, the civil server of the Special Civil and Criminal Court of Gurupi, Francilmara Aguiar evaluated the training as "an extremely enriching experience", especially for providing practical guidance on situations that require immediate action.

She reported that, before the course, she had no knowledge about how to act in emergencies, especially in cases of first aid, such as heart attack and choking. Throughout the training, she has come to understand better initial care techniques, correct evacuation procedures and proper use of firefighting equipment.

Francilmara also highlighted that one of the most relevant points was learning about the different types of fire extinguishers and their applications, knowledge that contributes to contain the spread of fire effectively. For her, the training reinforced an essential understanding:

“the greater good to be protected is the lives of people”.
