The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) held, on Friday (November 7th), the course on "Application of the LGPD (General Data Protection Law) in Judicial Decisions". The training, which certified 40 professionals, had an inter institutional character and brought together a qualified audience of civil servers and members of the Court of Justice (TJTO), the General Attorney Office (PGE), the Court of Auditors (TCE) and the State Prosecution (MP).

Coordinated by Justice Jacqueline Adorno de La Cruz Barbosa, vice-president of the TJTO and president of the Permanent Committee on Institutional Security (Copesi), the training aimed to enable the participants for the critical and grounded application of the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) both in judicial decisions and in everyday administrative practices.

During the 8-hour class, conducted at Esmat, Professor Danilo Menezes de Santana deepened complex topics, such as the intersection between LGPD and the Consumer Protection Code, Data Protection of Vulnerable Groups, Civil Liability, the Right of Opposition and the Analysis of the Recent Jurisprudence of the Superior Courts.

Danilo Menezes de Santana is a PhD student in Legal and Social Sciences, specialist in Personal Data Protection and, as Judicial Analyst of the Court of Justice of the state of Bahia (TJBA), acts as responsible for Personal Data Protection of that court. When evaluating the initiative, the professor highlighted the pioneering nature of the School and the relevance of integration between the control and justice bodies.

"It was a great pleasure to teach the course. The initiative demonstrates the commitment of the institution on continuing education and updating of professionals who work in public administration, especially on topics as current and sensitive as Personal Data Protection", he said.

In testimony, Danilo added, emphasizing the collaborative aspect of the class. "The participation of the civil servers of the Court of Justice, the PGE, the ECA and the State Prosecution reinforces the importance of integration among the bodies and the strengthening of an institutional culture focused on compliance and transparency in data processing. I congratulate Esmat for the excellence of the organization and its vision for the future", he said.

Among the participants, the content and methodology were also well evaluated. Heverson de Almeida Braga, auditor of External Control and special advisor of Planning of the TCE, classified the experience as "extremely enriching". According to him, the course allowed an in-depth understanding of the foundations and practical application of the LGPD in the Judiciary, "highlighting the challenges and responsibilities of public institutions in protecting personal information".

With a dialogic approach, case studies and active methodologies, the content was structured to stimulate critical thinking and exchange of experiences.

“The content was essential to understand how data protection should be incorporated into institutional decisions and routines, strengthening the culture of privacy and compliance in public administration", said Diogo Esteves Pereira, TCE/TO data protection officer of the TCE/TO (Court of Auditors of the state of Tocantins).

The perception of high quality was shared by João Paulo Macedo, also auditor of External Control in the TCE/TO. "It was great! The course provided a broad knowledge on the main aspects of the Data Protection Law, articulating a well-exposed theoretical part with practical application from case analysis. The professor showed a lot of mastery on the subject [...] and interacted in a very useful way with the students, solving all doubts", he concluded.
