September Was The Month Of Krenak And Bispo Dos Santos In Literary Workshops

The powerful narratives of Ailton Krenak and Antônio Bispo dos Santos marked the meetings of the second class of the Literary Workshops, held throughout the month of September. Mediated by Eugislane Moreira Lima, professor and doctor of Environmental Sciences (UFT), the reading circles addressed the confluence between indigenous and quilombola experiences as a key to think about the present and shake up structures. In total, there were four meetings, held on Tuesdays, always with the active participation of those registered.

In “Life is not useful,” Krenak, one of the most important contemporary thinkers, offers a critique of the world model that transforms everything into merchandise. In “The earth gives, the land wants,” Antônio Bispo dos Santos elaborates, with “germinating” words, the concept of counter-colonization as a way of existing in opposition to the logic of the colonial system.

The readings shed light on sensitive and structural themes: power relations, forms of care, ways of living, ancestry, and social justice.

Third and last class of the year

The third and final class of the Literary Workshops of 2025 begins on October 7th (next Tuesday) and it will feature the book As malditas (The Cursed Ones), by Argentinian trans writer and Actress Camila Sosa Villada. The circles will take place on October 7th, 14th, and 21st, always at 7 p.m., with Psychologist Cristina Silvana da Silva Vasconcelos as mediator.

The project will close on October 22 with a Cultural Soirée from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Esmat headquarters. The program will feature a presentation by the Suça Group, participation by master Patricinho, from the Quilombola people of Chapada de Natividade, a roundtable discussion, and artistic interventions.

The Literary Workshops are organized by the Directorate of Projects and Contract Management Division of the Personnel Management (Divpgc/Digep), in partnership with the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat).
