“You are the driving force behind this initiative. With empathy and respect, every act of love for others enriches not only those who receive it, but also those who offer it. I am convinced that, on the 12th, we will have an experience that will remain in the hearts of each one of you," said the coordinator of the Jud Pop Street Tocantins Regional Committee, Justice Ângela Prudente, during the opening of the training session for the 522 volunteers registered to participate in the 2nd Jud Pop Street Tocantins Task Force. The event will take place on Friday (September 12th), from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Almirante Tamandaré Full-Time School in the city of Palmas.
Based on the Decree No. 7,053 of 2009, which establishes the National Policy for the Homeless Population in Brazil and creates the committee to guarantee the rights of this population, the deputy coordinator of the committee, Judge Rosa Maria Gazire Rossi, emphasized that Jud Pop Street, despite being a national policy, is guided by the spirit of human rights, social inclusion, and citizenship. “And for it to be effective, all you have to do is let the ‘law of love’ flow, welcoming each person with empathy, eye contact, and compassion, respecting their inequalities and life stories”.
Focused on restoring human dignity, the initiative offers health services, legal guidance, document issuance, and social assistance, as well as discussion groups, leisure activities, and the “Solidary Hanger”, which provides clothing, shoes, and hygiene kits.
As instructed, volunteers should arrive half an hour early to pick up the white T-shirts that will identify them. Area coordinators will be wearing black T-shirts.
Guidelines
The task force is part of a collaborative network that offers fast and effective citizenship services without bureaucracy to homeless people and those in extremely vulnerable social situations. The secretary of the committee, Agnes Souza da Rosa, provided guidance on the logistics of the services, such as arrival times at the school, transportation, and meals, as well as a map of the school identifying the services.
The guidance is to enter via NS-04 Avenue and follow the flow of services (green). Health services are identified in red, passing through the screening area. On the upper floor are the justice system and university services, with legal practices, identified by the color lilac. Social benefits are in yellow.
"The news is that this year, showers and spa services will be available. Keep in mind that these services, as well as haircuts, will be limited by tickets, which must be requested at the screening," explained secretary Agnes.
Also in the organization of teams and volunteers, Aruana Guedes, an employee of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO), reinforced the humanized service of the team responsible for identifying demands. “Screening is the heart of the task force. You are the ones who make the first contact with them, and we need it to be a warm welcome,” she pointed out.
Action teams
In addition to magistrates and civil servers from the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins, the task force has hundreds of volunteers and collaborators from partner agencies and institutions to carry out its work, distributed as follows:
Screening: responsible for initial contact; must be active and compassionate listeners;
Guardian/Angel: accompany the person being assisted to the service room; must observe whether there is a need for additional support, such as a wheelchair, sign language interpreter, or other resource;
Specific Service: work in the rooms, responding on behalf of an institution.
