The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) holds, on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 24th and 25th, 2026, the course on "Precautionary Measures Other than Imprisonment and Proportionality in the Penal System", aimed at the qualification of professionals working in the field of penal alternatives in the state of Tocantins. The training brings together civil servers linked to the Executive Branch and the Justice System, reinforcing the institutional commitment to the technical improvement of practices developed in this segment.

The initiative seeks to strengthen the qualified implementation of the National Policy of Penal Alternatives, with an approach focused on citizenship, minimum intervention and the prospect of incarceration, in line with the guidelines of the National Council of Justice. During the course, participants are being updated on monitoring methodologies, restorative practices, decriminalizing institutes, and inter-institutional flows among criminal courts, penal enforcement courts, and centers for penal alternatives.

Partnership with the Executive branch

Partner of the training, the secretary of the Secretariat of Citizenship and Justice (Seciju), Hélio Pereira Marques, highlighted the importance of continuous training for professionals who work directly in this public policy.

“The Executive Branch is a partner of this training because it understands that penal alternatives and proportionality in the application of punishment are fundamental for strengthening a more efficient, humane and aligned with the guidelines of the Criminal Justice System. The continuous training of the civil servers who work in the centers and monitoring structures is essential to qualify the support provided to the Judiciary, especially given the importance of these measures as a response to super incarceration in Brazil," he said.
