On Tuesday (May 13th), the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) held the second class of the course on Basic Life Support and First Aid at the District Court of Paraíso do Tocantins.
Taught by facilitators Bruno Ribeiro Rocha and Elaine Cristina Ferreira, the aim of the activity was to train participants in the appropriate way to act in situations requiring immediate help, until the health service arrives. The class covered topics such as first aid in cases of fainting, convulsions, choking, bleeding and burns, among others.
What is basic life support?
Basic Life Support (BLS) is a set of emergency procedures that make up the first aid given to victims whose lives are at risk. It can be performed by both health professionals and trained laypeople, in any environment, as long as they have the necessary knowledge.
The practice is justified by its social and economic relevance, as it contributes to reduce morbidity and mortality in cases of sudden illness, Cardio respiratory Arrest (CA) and airway obstruction by a foreign body.
