Literary Workshops End With Reflections On Ancestral Future And Ideas By Krenak

The third group of this the Literary Workshops of this year ended their reading and reflection circles on Tuesday (September 24th), discussing themes covered in the works: ANCESTRAL FUTURE and IDEAS FOR POSTPONING THE END OF THE WORLD, by Ailton Krenak. The debates revolved around sustainability and the importance of the indigenous peoples in preserving the environment.

The discussions were mediated by Eugislane Moreira Lima, who holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the Federal University of the State of Tocantins (UFT) and is an indigenous member of the Karajá - Xambioá people.

For Marcela Santa Cruz Melo, Eugislane led the debates in such a way as to promote an enriching dialogue on the topics covered in the books. “Eugislane took the speaking position in such a way as to connect us with the real sense of citizenship, of belonging to the world in a critical and conscious way,” she commented.

In a comment, server Jonnilton Gomes also highlighted his positive experience at the workshop. “As in previous editions, everything was perfect! The dynamics, the material chosen and the welcome maintained the same level of excellence. Congratulations to the whole team involved!” he shared.

The workshop initiative, promoted by the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) in partnership with the Directorate of People Management (Digep), aims to stimulate reflection on contemporary issues that impact social and professional life, such as racial inequalities, gender oppression and environmental issues. This third class was attended by civil servers, Judges, trainees and employees of the Judiciary of the State of Tocantins

But, after all, who is Ailton Krenak and why read his books? Krenak, an environmentalist, philosopher, poet and writer, made history in April this year when he became the first indigenous person in over a hundred and twenty years to occupy a seat in the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL). In his works, he offers profound reflections on the relationship between human beings and nature and the urgent need to rethink our daily habits and practices.
