The Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO) will hold, on Thursday (Dec 18th), from 2 pm, an administrative session to choose eight new justices. The vacancies will be filled by judges, alternating two criteria provided for in the internal rules of the Court: seniority and merit. The proceedings will be reported by the chief of Justice, Justice Pedro Nelson de Miranda Coutinho.

Promotions by seniority follow the logic of career time: for each vacancy in this modality, it is submitted to vote the name of the oldest judge of the final entry, highest stage of the state magistracy before access to the 2nd degree.

Merit promotions consider criteria such as performance, productivity and conduct. In this modality, two vacancies are reserved for women, as an affirmative measure aimed at expanding the female presence in the 2nd Degree of Jurisdiction. In this case, the Full Court forms a list of three names and chooses by vote who will be promoted.

Of the eight vacancies that will be defined in the session, one arises from the retirement of Justice João Rigo Guimarães, occurred in July. The other seven result from the expansion of the number of members of the TJTO, provided for in the State Complementary Law no 153, of 2024, which raised the composition of the Court from 12 to 20 justices.

The Law also created a vacancy for the fifth constitutional of the Advocacy, to be filled after the definition by the Bar Association of Brazil - Tocantins Sectional (BAR/ TO) - of the candidates. With the new composition, the Full Court of the TJTO will have four seats in the fifth constitutional - two for the State Prosecution and two for the Advocacy.

The agenda of the administrative session brings together the notices and the list of magistrates qualified to compete for vacancies, according to the criteria provided in each process.
