The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat) received, on Monday (Dec 15th), the donation of approximately 400 books by teacher Maria Ângela Barbosa Lopes, civil server of the Institution. The collection brings together works from different areas of knowledge and literary genres, with a profile that talks to various age groups.

Part of the copies will integrate the collection of the Library; another part will follow the annual campaigns to encourage reading, promoted by Esmat, which broaden the scope of the book beyond the internal public of Justice.

In explaining the motivation of the gesture, teacher Maria Ângela spoke with the frankness of those who spent their lives teaching and betting on the power of reading.

“Well, I made the donation for several reasons. First, because it was to help in the campaigns of the School, there are many people who need and should read. I have been a teacher all my life, so I am in favor of reading. They are paradidactic books, which serve all age groups, young people and adults can read them", she said.

The organization and curation of donations are under the responsibility of Librarian Silvânia Olortegui, who coordinates the screening and defines destinations according to needs and requests. The works can be sent to Penal Units of the State, quilombola and indigenous communities and educational institutions, as required, ensuring that each book fulfills its social role: reach those who need it most.

The donation also comes at a symbolic moment for the Esmat Library. At the beginning of this month of December, the Reading Station was inaugurated, a project that occupies a special space on each floor of the School and invites the academic and institutional community to approach the book in a daily and uncomplicated way: pick up, read right there or take home, return later or leave another one in place.

The Esmat Library remains open to new donations. Books of Brazilian or foreign literature are accepted, provided they are in good condition.
