Digital Transformation In The Justice System Is The Topic Of A Presentation At The Second Course On Advanced Studies For Presidents Of Brazilian Courts Of Auditors

Justice Marco Anthony Villas Boas, general director of the Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), participated on Tuesday (August 5th) as a lecturer in the module on “Ethical Challenges of Artificial Intelligence” in the II Course on Advanced Studies, held at the traditional Law School of the University of the state of São Paulo (USP), in São Francisco Square.

The activity is part of the postdoctoral program that the justice participates in at USP, focusing on Generative Artificial Intelligence and the Judiciary, under the coordination of Professor Ana Carla Bliechieriene and Professor Luciano Araújo. His presentation addressed the impacts of digital transformation on the Brazilian Justice System, highlighting the importance of the ethical and responsible use of new technologies in the legal field.

The course is aimed at the presidents of the Brazilian Courts of Auditors and it seeks to promote a deeper understanding of strategic and emerging issues in the institutional landscape of the country. The choice of topic reflects the growing concern about the risks, limitations, and potential of AI applied to public action and jurisdiction.

LIIARES

In addition to the lecture, Justice Villas Boas and executive director of Esmat Ana Beatriz de Oliveira Pretto participated in institutional meetings with USP professors to discuss ongoing academic cooperation projects, including LIIARES (Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Social Responsibility), the Horus system, and the MBA in Artificial Intelligence, which is being developed in partnership between Esmat and the University of the state of São Paulo.

According to the justice, this is a time for critical reflection on the direction of artificial intelligence in public institutions, and the Judiciary cannot shy away from this debate.

“It is necessary to ensure that technological advances go hand in hand with fundamental rights and the promotion of social justice," he said.
