Esmat Launches Campaign On Solidary Book Collection For Akwẽ-Xerente Indigenous Students

The Superior School of the Judges of the State of Tocantins (Esmat), through its Library, has started the campaign on “Reading among trees: education that flourishes”, aimed at collecting books for the library of the Xerente Warã Indigenous High School, in the city of Tocantínia (TO). The school serves around 340 students from the Akwẽ-Xerente ethnic group and it will be benefited from literary works donated by the community of the Judiciary of the state of Tocantins.

The campaign runs from June 20th to July 31st, with a focus on promoting access to reading, encouraging reading training from childhood and strengthening cultural identity through literature.

Which books can be donated?

New and/or used books of Brazilian literature can be donated, with a special focus on literature for children. Donations can include works in the genres of novel, novella, short story, chronicle, poem, theater and drama, as long as they are in good condition and have appropriate content to the target audience.

Where can I donate the books?

Donations will be received from Monday to Friday, from 12pm to 6pm, at the Esmat Library, located at the following address: Block 302 North, Street 1, 1-165 TO, ZIP CODE 77006-328 – North Director Plan, Palmas-TO.

In addition to the library of the school, donations can also be delivered to the General Internal Affairs of Justice (CGJUS) and the Communication Center of the Court of Justice of the State of Tocantins (TJTO/Cecom), which are joining the campaign as support points.

To broaden the possibilities for participation, the Library and Communications & Publishing team of Esmat have prepared a list of book suggestions, with titles varying in genre and price range.

The action is part of a set of social responsibility initiatives by Esmat, which for years has been running campaigns to encourage reading in traditional communities, public schools and penal units in the state of Tocantins.

The aim is to contribute to the educational and cultural development of the society in the state of Tocantins through access to literature and the appreciation of knowledge. Silvania Olortegui, the librarian of the school, is responsible for conducting and organizing the activities.
