Meet the 24 finalists of the ANA 2020 Award

Projects continue in the dispute for the trophy. Winners of each of the eight categories will be known in March 2021.

In a ceremony broadcast by YouTube on Wednesday, December 2nd, the National Agency of Water and Basic Sanitation (ANA) announced the names of the 24 finalist projects of the ANA 2020 Award. There are three finalists, in each of the eight award categories, who now dispute the trophy of winners of the contest.

A new is that the three finalists of each category are now able to use the "ANA Award Seal: Finalist" in their materials for the project, according to the rules of the brand application.

The three finalist projects will continue competing for the ANA Award until March 2021, when the winners of each category will be defined. The date for the conclusion of this award edition was changed at the beginning of November, in a decision of the ANA Board of Directors, so that the celebration of the winners will take place in March 2021, in respect to the measures of social distancing and in memory of the victims of COVID-19.

As a new of the ANA 2020 Award, the finalist initiatives will have the opportunity to present their actions in online events from January 2021 in order to give greater visibility to the work done. The objective of these meetings is to serve as a showcase for the finalist projects to have their ideas shared with audiences that can disseminate throughout Brazil the good practices related to our waters - a greater sense that drives the award.

REGISTRATIONS RECORD

ANA 2020 Award has already made history with a record of 695 entries from all states in Brazil and the Federal District, even in a pandemic context. The total surpasses the previous mark registered in the ANA 2017 Award, when 607 good practices participated. The winners of the eight categories in competition will win the exclusive ANA Award Trophy. One noew is that the three finalists in each category will be able to use the "ANA Award Seal: Finalist" or the "ANA Award Seal: Winner" in their promotional materials, according to the results of the contest.

 

In this historic edition of the award, which also celebrates the Agency's 20th anniversary, the category with the highest number of registered initiatives was Research and Technological Innovation: 157 in total. For the other categories the registrations were divided as follows: Communication (129), Government (102), Medium and Large Enterprises (86), Education (59), Civil Organizations (66), Micro or Small Enterprises (59) and Entries from the National Water Resources Management System (37). The award is made by ANA to recognize work that contributes to water safety, management and sustainable use of water for the sustainable development of Brazil.

The Judging Commission of the ANA Award, chaired by ANA director Oscar Cordeiro Netto, defined the three finalists of each category, based on the following criteria: effectiveness, innovation, social and environmental impacts, dissemination potential, sustainability and social adherence. For the Communication category, the criterion of sustainability will not be applicable.

The other members of the Judging Commission were selected on the basis of their notorious knowledge and cleared reputation. They are the ones: the executive secretary of the Federal District's Secretary of the Environment, Marília Marreco; the ombudsman of the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE), Sérgio Carazza; the manager of the Sustainable Development Department of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP), Anícia Pio; the general coordinator of the National Network Professional Master in Water Resources Management and Regulation (ProfÁgua), Jefferson de Oliveira; the executive manager of the UFLA Agency for Innovation in Geotechnology and Intelligent Systems from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), Samuel Campos; the special advisor of the Social Development Board of the Bank of Brazil Foundation (FBB), Rogério Miziara; the director of Journalism of the Brazilian Communication Company (EBC), Sirlei Batista; and the president of the Brazil Network of Watershed Organizations (REBOB), Lupércio Ziroldo.

ANA AWARD

Created 14 years ago by the National Agency of Water and Basic Sanitation to recognize the best practices and initiatives directed to the care of Brazilian waters, the ANA Award is the most traditional award in the water sector in Brazil and has already accounted for 2,952 entries, having awarded 40 projects from all regions of Brazil, which stood out for their contribution to the development of the country.
